PROMISE: Predicting Outcomes from Movement in Infants using Sensors

Eligibility: Families may be eligible if they:

  • Are pregnant or have an infant under 9 months of age
  • Have at least one older child with a confirmed clinical diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
  • Live in the Greater Los Angeles area

Purpose:
The purpose of this study is to investigate early infant development and movement patterns to improve the early detection of autism and other developmental concerns.

Involvement:
Families will participate in 5 study visits across their child's first 2 years of life. Study activities include developmental assessments, parent questionnaires, and wearable sensor recordings to measure infant movement. Some visits may be completed remotely from home, while others take place in person at UCLA.

Benefits:
Families receive compensation for participation ($55 per visit and an additional $80 at the 24-month visit). Families will also receive developmental feedback throughout the study and a written developmental summary at the 24-month visit.
